  • Incredible site probably of someone here 1000 years ago, said the sign. We climbed the top and enjoyed observing sheeplife in a nearby field. A wonderful time and all to ourselves.
  • Beautiful view from the fort walls over Cahersiveen bay and the entire region, still almost entirely standing.
  • Largely reconstructed, but a lovely site to visit, with a nice walk from the (free) car parking facilities to it. Reminded me of a larger Grianan of Aileach (Donegal). The walls are massive, not only in height, but in thickness too, with a stepped interior that enabled us to climb to the top. In the centre is a circular structure, probably a form of large beehive hut. Cahergall is from the Irish At Chathair Gheal meaning 'the bright stone fort' and as the sun bounced off the stonework in places the quartz glistened - perhaps where it got its name from? The massive site is thought to be earlier than Leacanabuaile, perhaps being built in the early 7th century, but as with Leacanabuaile, we were the only people at the site.
  • Very interesting round fort with a beautiful view on top of it.
  • Definetly worth a visit! I have seen a few stone forts and this one is very well preserved. The view is stunning and it is not crowded with tourists. It is very close to ballycarbery castle and Leacanabuaile Stone Fort, so perfect to do the 3 in a row :-)
