Bunratty

Unequivocally dedicated to tourism, the small village of Bunratty remains best known for its medieval castle, indisputably the most visited attraction in the region. Built in the 15th century and restored in the 1950s after centuries of neglect, the castle contains period furnishings, tapestries, and artworks. More than just a history buff's dream come true, Bunratty also offers good shopping and dining opportunities, and serves travelers as a comfortable base for discovering the scenic areas along the Shannon River. Be sure to visit Bunratty's popular folk park, which vividly recreates the look and the feel of a 19th-century Irish settlement.
