  • Lovely modern gallery with lots of info on the history of Athlone. Our visit was slightly hampered by noisy visitors but once we let them pass it was a nice experience I especially liked the interactive parts of the museum. WE spent about an hour and a half here. Worth a visit.
  • We stopped here for our drive from Dublin to Westport. Great place to get out and stretch the legs. Lots of interesting history and there are many good places to grab a bite around it too.
  • The playground of my childhood has been turned into a rather excellent regional attraction / museum. There are plenty of hands on exhibits to keep the kids interested. I especially liked the very artistic figured of important personages from the Siege of Athlone.
  • Very neat placement on the Shannon. But, not terribly big, so you don't need to plan much time here.
  • Well worth a visit If you're in the area. Right in the town and very accessible. It doesn't tale long to explore and lovely views.
