Nature / Park
Built on the site of Saddam Hussein's former military base and detention camp, Sami Abdulrahman Park draws scores of locals for relaxation and recreation. Favored by families and wedding parties, the park boasts rolling green lawns, lakes with fountains, rose gardens, children's playgrounds, and a small amphitheater. Take a jog along the running track, or simply stroll the tree-lined pathways and soak in the atmosphere. The park commemorates a former prime minister that was one of nearly 100 people who lost their lives in a 2004 terrorist attack. See their names inscribed in the memorial monument, together with words "Freedom is not free." Where to stay in Erbil

Running out from the central citadel in concentric circles, the city of Erbil offers a good set of accommodations. As a rule, the farther from the center you get (while still within the city proper), the newer the buildings and the more luxurious the hotels. If you're a real fan of luxury, look to the west of the city center, where impressive modern hotels overlook Sami Abdulrahman Park. If you're looking for something suited to tighter budgets, consider guesthouses and simple, older hotels.

  • Large enough to have a picnic, go for a walk and exercising. The saff there works hard to keep the area clean
  • Lush garden with numerous paths, two ponds and a monument. Lots of birdlife and picnic spots.
  • Amazing place to visit and take family & friends :-)
  • Wounderful views and you can feel natura around
  • Always crowded but still a good place for a family picnic. Has a nice area for kids, however crowded as well.
