Tehran Bazaar, Tehran

3.5
#1 of 26 in Shopping in Iran
An expansive labyrinth of busy stalls and shops, Tehran Bazaar lures you in with its endless realm of shopping opportunities. Hundreds of covered corridors and lanes provide sections of clothing, souvenirs, spices, carpets, and much, much more. Following the footsteps of thousands of shoppers before you, haggle your way between vendors, keeping a keen eye out for the bargain of the day hidden among the alcoves. A market of some sort has existed on this spot for centuries, although much of the architecture you see today is no more than 200 years old. • This bazaar is very bizarre, but interesting. It's old and dirty, with provisory roof and ventilators everywhere. It looks like place form Blade Runner. Don't go there if you dream of bazaar like from...  more »
  • It was closed the first time due to Hossiens mourning period but the actual artisan beauty is wonderful. The entrance is beautiful. We went back another time and enjoyed our wander, there are lots of ...  more »
  • The Bazaar of Tehran's huge, you can find everything. Every commodity has its own space so that you can head directly to what you are looking for. There is for example a space dedicated exclusively to carpets, unique and beautiful, and an area dedicated to custom jewelry where you can DIY your IE choose what you like and customize a necklace or a bracelet. To turn everything it takes probably all day long but worth it.

Where to stay in Tehran

The northern districts of Tehran possess a more suburban, cosmopolitan feel, and a more spacious form, with a number of accommodations geared towards international tourism. Luxury hotels with pools overlooking the parks sit alongside some more basic and humble offerings, usually located on the lesser side streets. The southern districts offer a livelier experience, where guesthouses, hostels, and simple hotels line the confusing bundle of winding streets. Of course, some areas of the south open up a little, and here you'll find a good number of standard and mid-range hotels with varying levels of amenities.
