Holy Shrine of Emam Khomeini, Tehran

3.3
#3 of 17 in Historic Sites in Tehran
See the power of unity in grief at Holy Shrine of Emam Khomeini, a holy shrine built solely from financial gifts of the public and different organizations. The construction took time; 40 days after Imam Khomeini's death, only the burial chamber and grave itself existed. Admire the 8 m (26 ft) tall dome surrounded by four minarets which radiates modern dignity. The intricate stained-glass windows paint the burial chamber in different colors, contributing to the beauty of the building. • Great splendor but does it all very cold and impersonal. But of course absolutely worth seeing and monumental. Please note: Cameras are not allowed, can be trouble. Mobile no problem, you can even shoot. Incomprehensible, but it's true.

  • Is the tomb of the Iranian spiritual leader, Gaumeni. The status and power of the Gaumeni (Imam), who is the holy man of the Saints, is a hero who leads the Iranians to the abolition of the monarchy and the creation of the Republic of Islam. After the death of 1989, believers donated their tombs, and the tombs were so proud that they seemed to be still in the building, and the ironic was that Gaumeni was strong against the luxury of life. The daily coming of the Saints and visitors to the Holy 繹 is not the same, for the local people who have to pay more than the way to the Saints, the mausoleum outside the area is more dedicated to the camp. To enter the tomb, men and women need to be examined, in addition to shoes inside (can be deposited or with plastic bags), the ladies also need to put on a bed-like chador (free of charge) cover the whole body, not accustomed to us, drag the cloth block and walk, very wolf 狽 it!

  • The State built in the suburbs that Imam Khomeini's grave, just recently, that land. Here take the subway from the city center, 2, it takes about 30 minutes. I would have no problem if you have enough time, but otherwise go. Dane and visible from the station are still under construction or were surrounded by scaffolding. In addition, no English signs, where if I go it is not obvious. Or because I went early in the morning, many people had deserted.

  • It's a mausoleum of a great leader. The importance of this place is not less important than the mausoleum of Lenin. The mausoleum or as they call it marqad is haram, which means that someone very important is buried there. I've always liked the idea of haram. Women must wear chador. And the rules here are strict. The mausoleum is huge. It is covered with lavish ornaments. Its roof is tall. There are many pilgrims who want to touch the zarih or the place where Imam Khomeini is buried. The marqad is a huge P.S. I was successful not to visit that place on the day when Tehran terror happened. I had visited that place two days before.
  • Sayyid Ruhollah Mūsavi Khomeini, known in the Western world as Ayatollah Khomeini, was an Iranian Shia Muslim religious leader, philosopher, revolutionary, and politician
  • It's the grave of the relogious leader of Iran's Islamic revolution who was strongly against luxurious lifestyle, but his hier made a shrine for him which is one of the most luxurious ones! So sad...
  • The Man who changed the World
  • Good shrine

Where to stay in Tehran

The northern districts of Tehran possess a more suburban, cosmopolitan feel, and a more spacious form, with a number of accommodations geared towards international tourism. Luxury hotels with pools overlooking the parks sit alongside some more basic and humble offerings, usually located on the lesser side streets. The southern districts offer a livelier experience, where guesthouses, hostels, and simple hotels line the confusing bundle of winding streets. Of course, some areas of the south open up a little, and here you'll find a good number of standard and mid-range hotels with varying levels of amenities.
