Vakil Mosque, Shiraz
(4/5 based on 100+ reviews on the web)
Visit Vakil Mosque, an 18th century mosque, and learn about the architecture of the Zand dynasty period. The mosque covers an area of 8,660 sq m (93,215 sq ft). Its name means "regent," and refers to Karim Khan, founder of the Zand dynasty who used that title. See decorative floral tiles, characteristic of the art of that period, in the mosque as well as in the garden. The minbar, or pulpit where the prayer leader (or imam) stands to deliver sermons, is a true masterpiece, made entirely out of green marble. • Although I have read reviews describing it as a mosque more, I think it is a set of must-see in Shiraz. It is a building of the 18TH century, very central. Surprised not to have to pay entry: in all Iran foreigners have to pay entrance to all the monuments and sometimes the price is almost five times more expensive for a foreigner than for a local. In this case you can access of form free to a joint architectural of great beauty. Entrance doors, as well as the interior of the mosque is decorated with precious forming floral decorations. Part of the courtyard and the shabestan or night prayer hall were at work in mid-September 2016. The mosque has an area of 8,660 square meters and has two rooms and two entrance doors. The main hall or Shabestan is a forest of 48 monolithic stone columns carved in the form of a spiral, a marvel.

  • A very beautiful and historic mosque. But it is hidden deep inside the bazar, so you have to ask around: just say "masjede vakil" and people will tell you where to go, if that doesn't work, show them pictures. Shopkeepers know the way around better than consumers. good luck
  • Actually nothing to see, and work in progress at the moment of our visit. And there are so many incredible places for sightseeing in Chiraz, you can easily pass that one. Might be good to have a rest under the columns.
  • This mosque is so majestic and beautiful. The rows of columns at the main prayer hall makes the room feel so grand and I so small. It was under renovation when I visited and I would love to return when it's completed.
  • Not worthwhile to pay. There are many mosque in Shiraz which are more beautiful than it.
  • so beautiful
