Shah-e-Cheragh Shrine, Shiraz

Must see · Religious Site · Tourist Spot
Shiraz's most important pilgrimage destination, Shah-e-Cheragh Shrine features tombs of Shi'a brothers Amir Ahmad and Mir Mohammad, killed here during the Sunni Abbasid persecution in 835. Two gilt-top minarets flank the tulip-like tiled dome of this mosque and funerary monument. Inside, numerous mirrors reflect light in all of its elaborately designed rooms. A large pool in the front courtyard features evenly spaced fountains and reflects the impressive entrance door plated with gold, which devotees kiss upon entrance. Apparently, entrance is forbidden to non-Muslims unless you know a local. Use our Shiraz driving holiday app to arrange your visit to Shah-e-Cheragh Shrine and other attractions in Shiraz.

  • Shiraz's Shah Cheragh Shrine is a very interesting place to visit, as it gives a good exemple of what Holy Shrines look like in Iran. The dome, with its rosebud shape, is a typical feature of Shirazi....  more »
  • Grandiose structure. Superb Islamic architecture. Fine tiles and mosaics. Large courtyards. Very clean. You have to pass security control when entering the complex.
  • People in this shrine place ask help to GOD. Say pray and help each other to have better life. Muslims believe these shrine places has metaphysics energy. Because who reposed there was a good man and GOD love him/her.I think this metaphysic energy comes from their belief.
  • Really beautiful shrine that welcomes foreign visitors. The huge interior is just magical. No cameras are allowed but you can take discreet pictures with your mobile phones.
  • Very nice. Free for tourist. And you have a guide. We went during sunset it was amazing. Too bad you cant take your camera inside because of disrespectful tourists. But that is definitely the best to see at shiraz
  • You have to visit the Shah Cheragh shrine in the evening. With the artificial light you will imagine yourself in a story of 1001 nights. There will also be lots of Iranian people that come here to tribute honor to the Shah. The access is free and you will be asked if which language you speak, so that they organise a guide (also free) for you to explain and discuss. It has been a wonderful experience visiting the shrine and talking to people.
