A richly decorated facade and impressive golden domes make Mausoleo di Fatima el Masuma one of the area's most striking landmarks. The mausoleum includes courtyards, prayer halls, and burial grounds, while the interior boasts giant chandeliers. Considered one of the most sacred sites for Shia Muslims, the shrine contains the tomb of Fatima Masumeh, a 9th-century saint. • Qom is considered the second sacred city of the Shiites, after Karbala, and took on a political connotation, as well as religious, after the revolution of 1979, when Khomeini has established its residence. Today it is possible to visit part of the sanctuary of Santa Hezrat-and-Ma'suma, dedicated to the sister of the eighth Imam, in practice the big backyards, because the many mosques that are part of the complex are not accessible to non-Muslims. The visit is permitted only with the accompaniment of a local guide, a young imam who spoke only farsi we explained the features of the complex, has therefore been of great use to have our guide that we translated in Italian. The Protocol is very strict: search for men, Ditto for women by adding a chador clear to distinguish them from those premises. Opportunity to make pictures without any limitation; quiet atmosphere and no sign of intolerance towards foreigners. The sanctuary is beautiful with its triumph of minarets, Iwan and domes richly decorated with coloured tiles; particularly striking the great golden dome of the main mosque, especially sight at twilight hours.

  • An atmosphere totally diffėrente of the other cities of Iran, with the feeling of being truly in a Holy City. Around the building are reminiscent of Lourdes with the merchants of the temples, countless shops for the pėlerins (there are very few tourists here). Access to the religious center is very strict, we expect that an imam pick us to guide us, the women lend a chador (the scarf is not enough) but once inside the enclosure is a wonder at the mausoleum of Fatima and its huge golden dome glistening in the Sun. All buildings and minanrets are more impressive with each other and the mi-etudiante atmosphere, religious mi-recueillement is extraordinary. One of our best memories of Iran.

  • The entire system is more than worth a visit. The architecture alone has a lot to offer, from the oldest part of the inside, up to the first outer areas. The entire area extends enormous until today, in the future to cope with the increasing number of pilgrims. The place is not regarded as a tourist attraction, and if to behave appropriately restrained, it is handled very nicely as a non-Muslim guest.
