Yeh Pulu Temple, Ubud

3.5
#4 of 7 in Historic Sites in Ubud
Historic Site Religious Site
Hidden among the bright green rice fields and banana trees, Yeh Pulu Temple features a collection of 14th-century carvings on a stone wall. First discovered in the 1920s, the site was then extensively excavated in 1929. Don a traditional (and required) sarong, and walk along the fascinating wall with a gentle waterfall to one side. Follow the lush gardens and Hindu sculptures down the path as you interpret stories of ancient life in Bali. Visit the ritual holy bathing pools and the spirit water fountains to learn more about the deep connection between water, the rice fields, and the people. Where to stay in Ubud

Sayan Valley offers luxury accommodations atmospherically designed to fit the look and feel of the natural surroundings, with infinity pools, wooden lodges, and yoga-ready verandas aplenty. Less expensive alternatives are also available, albeit with fewer amenities and a little less isolation. If you wish to stay in Ubud itself, look for charming and inexpensive rooms rented by local families (with many including breakfast in the cost), or consider the pricier single-occupancy apartments.

  • It's just one wall covered in carvings. It's nice and chances are you'll be alone. As it's close to Goa Gajah, you should check it out, but don't make it a destination.  more »
  • Don't expect a lot, but expect a small jewel. Absolutely stunning and very well maintained. You are 'obliged' to get a tour guide at the entrance, welcome the experience to chat to them and don't get ...  more »
  • Very old Hindu bas relief carvings, but the real point of coming is the walk down the valley, which is beautiful. If you are wearing shorts, they will lend you a sarong at the entrance.  more »

  • Beautiful secluded site for some lone time. Do NOT go with the annoying "guide" at the entrance. The easiest way to get rid of him is to pretend you don't speak English.
  • beautiful rock carvings set in a peaceful rural setting, surrounded by rice fields.
  • The entrance fee is 15k (as of Sep 2016) + 2k for parking, but you may be forced to go with a guide who will ask additional fee for a guidance (up to 100k, if you look gullible). Do not agree to use a guide or bargain the second price as low as possible. Also there was a woodworker, who tried to sell us his things for an exorbitant price in a highly intrusive way. Just ignore him completely. The temple is small, and it only has the stated carvings. On the path to the temple we found several fruit trees, endless rice fields. spiders, and a small waterfall. Would be nice to see it all without the annoying service I described above.
  • My home in yeh pulu street
  • Beautiful rock carvings, get blessed at the shrine for a small donation. Then visit Yeh Puluh cafe for some wonderful local food.
