Gunung Kawi Sebatu Temple, Tegalalang

4.6
#2 of 12 in Things to do in Tegalalang
Admire the intricate stone carvings and various statues and shrines at Gunung Kawi Sebatu Temple. A Hindu temple dedicated to Vishnu, the preserver god who rules over water, this hidden gem features grounds filled with natural springs and lotus ponds inhabited by golden carp. You can feed the fish, roam the lush forest landscape, and even drink the pure cold water from the springs. Be prepared to descend quite a lot of steps to get to the site, but once you do you will be rewarded with lovely surroundings and views of the rice fields. Note that women will need to wear a sarong, and men a sash, to enter. • An awesome site, with some spectacular views. Beware of the steps, particularly in the hot weather. Even younger people were struggling with the steep steps. Wear sensible shoes and don’t be pushed into buying a sarong from the traders en route to the entrance. The ticket price includes sarong hire if required.
  • Quiet place There is a bit to walk to reach near the temple Better time to go is on the mornings and evening. We went during afternoon and it was tiring to say the least. One could see the stone carvings of the old and there is a small waterfall adjacent to it. Looks a bit outdated in terms of not renovating it. But overall a feel good place.
  • Amazing place. Feel so quite and peace. The stone cliffs were carved for praying temple. There are also ponds where people can purity their soul. This temple has several times became movie sets for its uniqueness. There are hundreds of stairs to step down to the temple area.
  • Its tomb, temple with carvings on the wall. Flights of stairs about 200 steps each way. The only consolidation point is the midway paddy field with a hut selling coconut. Take some time off and enjoy the view before hiking back up.
  • We arrived right before closing, there were maybe only 3 other couples. Most little stalls selling things were closed for the day. It was quiet, beautiful, humbling. A must see! Be prepared for the hike down and back up the stairs.
