Ulun Danu Beratan Temple, Tabanan

Must see · Ruin · Architectural Building
See an ancient Hindu temple at Ulun Danu Beratan Temple. Built in 1663 on the shores of Lake Bratan with manmade islands stretching out into the lake, the water temple cuts a figure against the surrounding mountainous landscape and hallowed waters. Admire the delicate interiors of the temple buildings, and place an offering to the Balinese water, lake, and river goddess Dewi Danu, who is particularly esteemed here because of the importance of Lake Bratan as a source of irrigation in the area. Before you leave, take time to appreciate the fertility and natural abundance of the area by having a freshly cooked local meal at the on-site restaurant. Put Ulun Danu Beratan Temple and other Tabanan attractions into our Tabanan road trip planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • After a long and winding drive into the depths of Bali's hillsides, our Temple Tour with Discova took us to the one and only Ulun Danu Bratan Temple. Famed for its location on top of a lake, this...  more »
  • To me perhaps the most beautiful of the Balinese temples. Located along the ancient, volcanic Bratan lake and surrounded by wonderful flower gardens, this is a place to unwind yourself and surrender.....  more »
  • I am very happy to be able to take pictures in this very beautiful place, not forgetting the view that is presented is very soothing to the eye. Beautiful flower garden and clean place.  more »

  • Before visiting, I would expect the temple to be as spectacular as what is shown on the Internet. Unfortunately, it isn't; the water level is low and hence, it lacks the 'floating' effect. Although the view is nice and the weather is cooling, like what others mentioned, it isn't worth the long drive (about 2 hours from Seminyak). I spent about 20 minutes here, therefore, would recommend one to come here only if you plan to visit the other attractions along the way.
  • This temple is by the lake which has very nice views. The temple is very big so the entire visit may take about 45 min to 1.5 h depending on your travel group. It can be quite crowded, because its one of the iconic temples in Bali.
  • After a pretty long drive from Denpasar I'm happy to say it was definitely worth it. Lots of great spots for photos and beautiful scenery in general. The weather is cool and breezy. Stopped by to eat at the restaurant and the food was pretty good as well.
  • The Ulun Danu Beratan Temple is beautiful and the park around is comfortable too. Depends on when you come here, the water level will be different. If the water level is high, you can take the photo with shade of temple, just like what you expected in postcard. However if the water level is low, you may not able to take a good photo, but you can walk right next to the temple and have a closer look at it
  • Don’t be mislead, this temple is very much NOT in the lake, nor is it a spiritual place. It has been converted into a selfie-spot park. Entry is 50k and we were charged 20k for parking (even though when we translated what the guard said later, we realized he only asked for 1k...?!) FYI drones are strictly forbidden. The only reason I’m giving this place two stars is because of the views you see on the way there. The lakes are beautiful, but I unfortunately would not recommend this temple to anyone.
