Pura Luhur Batukaru, Tabanan
(4.3/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web)
Hike up Mount Batukaru to find Pura Luhur Batukaru, a temple tucked away in its slopes. Sacred to the local Hindu population, the site is believed to protect Bali from evil spirits. Originally built in the 11th century, the temple was subsequently destroyed and rebuilt in 1959. Take a walk around this secluded structure, viewing its ponds, shrines, and traditional architecture. Explore a bit further into the surrounding thick mountain vegetation, including bamboo, coffee trees, and cocoa plants, but grab some warmer clothes because it gets quite chilly at this altitude. Our Tabanan itinerary maker makes visiting Pura Luhur Batukaru and other Tabanan attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • Reach it by car is quite easy. There is parking. The temple itself is very authentic. Around the beautiful nature. There are almost no tourists, the temple is very respected among the locals.

  • In the Woods, and the rest hidden complex of temples. Admission 20, 000 IDR. At the time of our visit, we were the only tourists. Behind the walls of the temples, a few "waste dumps" and baskets for sorted waste. Tip: Take them old bread to the carp in the pond.

  • We stayed at Pura Luhur Batukaru in early September, during the period where the most significant religious ceremonies were held. To access it you have to walk down a steep stretch of road, together with the faithful who, wore dresses offered at the temple. This visit was very impressive and spiritual peace and tranquility was unimaginable. Our guide led us throughout the visit and allowed to attend (at a safe distance) in ceremonies and functions occurring around the temple. It is obligatory the use of the sarong. It's a little-known, half done apart from us, there have been no other 8/10 tourists (the faithful instead hundreds upon hundreds). The Pura Luhur Batukaru is completely immersed in the vegetation, between Brooks and stone statues, a haven of silence and peace. Not all areas are accessible to tourists: there are various temples, enclosed by stone fences, where the faithful come to the ceremonies. Also in the passes of the Pura Luhur Batukaru is a large body of water and purification: fountains of spring water where the faithful immerse themselves and make offerings, very impressive. Of course you should pay close attention to what you do and star silent if there are celebrations taking place. To our entrance, although we weren't of the faithful, we are purified by a "holy man" with water on the nape, we felt welcomed. Large stone staircases, green trails, stone statues and enormous kindness on the part of the faithful. complete in the best way this wonderful visit. Highly recommended, and preferably during the ceremonies, for us it was very touching.

  • Really hard to find and disastrous street to drive by scooter. Not that impressing temple. I think if you have a lot of time to spend in Bali it's worth a visit. If you have not that much time skip this temple and visit another one.
  • if you can feel the energy, you'll be very excited.. feel the power here,,feel how great is The Lord..
  • The best pura for me. Without any tourist, in the middle of jungle and with nice lake.
  • Quiet and peacefull hindu temple, cool air and realy forest experience.
  • Quiet and hard to get there, but a really nice temple. Look for the artificial lake when you're there
