Le Mayeur Museum, Sanur

2.9
#2 of 12 in Museums in Denpasar
Browse the collection of art at Le Mayeur Museum, the former home of Belgian painter Adrien-Jean Le Mayeur de Merpres. The collection includes both the artist's own works and his collection of Balinese cultural artifacts. Although Le Mayeur only intended to visit Bali for a few months in 1932, he stayed for good after falling in love with a young legong dancer who became his lifelong muse. Sadly, the sea air has damaged the poorly protected paintings, but even faded, they still display the artist's great skill. • Not worth the detour if it is to visit the remains of the House. Tables in poor condition. Approximate techniques. Nothing is highlighted. Not a lot of talent in the painting of the Mayor. In short, choose snorkeling in pictorial art in Sanur who can book other miles surprises.

  • Adrien Le Mayeur was a celebrity already in his lifetime in Bali. He married a Balinese dancer named Ni Pollock, one often finds in his works. The images are mostly scenes of women in many life situations, they touch me very. They give really Balinese way of life and culture. Unfortunately the Museum to the Indonesian Government was transferred after the death of the widow, the House and the remaining paintings are in poor condition. Worth a visit, easy to find on the beach of Sanur.

  • We were staying in Sanur by the beach so we thought we would pay this museum a visit one rainy day. It is a little hard to spot, as it is behind a wall where the Sanur to Nusa Lembongan ferries depart...  more »

  • The museum has very nice pieces of art, the building is so beautiful. But it is a shame that everything is in such bad state. Everything is dirty and only the garden show some maintenance. The light is horrible and a lack of curatorial advice makes the experience rather disappointing.
  • Nice place.. great architecture n design.. rich of traditional culture n story.. 👍👍👍
  • Huge potential ruined by disinterested local authorities. Horrendously discoloured printed replicas of good, strong art. This place should be buzzing with tourists, have ORIGINALS on display and continuously restorated. Looks pretty much deserted. We had to search for someone to take our money for the tickets.
  • I enjoyed the museum when we visited in 2011, authentic, but might need better maintanence. Shows very well the way of living of the painter. I recommend to read the novel "Liebe und Tod auf Bali" from Vicky Baum, as some aspects of her book seem to coincide with aspects of his life.
