Le Mayeur Museum, Sanur

2.9
#2 of 6 in Museums in Denpasar
Browse the collection of art at Le Mayeur Museum, the former home of Belgian painter Adrien-Jean Le Mayeur de Merpres. The collection includes both the artist's own works and his collection of Balinese cultural artifacts. Although Le Mayeur only intended to visit Bali for a few months in 1932, he stayed for good after falling in love with a young legong dancer who became his lifelong muse. Sadly, the sea air has damaged the poorly protected paintings, but even faded, they still display the artist's great skill. really cheap to get into 50,000IDR and right on the beach interesting paintings and photographs. It could do with a little money spent on it but worth a visit  more »

The House and grounds is quite interesting to look at, but I must agree with the others here concerning the pictures - it's a shame as you can see to the expiration of the works. All without air conditioning behind spiegelendem glass in the high humidity. All colors are already heavily faded, some works can be seen as a bad reproduction (printed photo). Explanations are very sparse, so before you must read a. The price of admission is now also on 50 k IDR raised what is really no longer little in light of the offer.

When planning a 30 min for the visit, it should be enough. Many images can be viewed badly, the safety glass should be before that event. be renewed. The entrance fee is 50 k per person. It is quite recommended expectations should be not too large.

Huge potential ruined by disinterested local authorities. Horrendously discoloured printed replicas of good, strong art. This place should be buzzing with tourists, have ORIGINALS on display and continuously restorated. Looks pretty much deserted. We had to search for someone to take our money for the tickets.

I enjoyed the museum when we visited in 2011, authentic, but might need better maintanence. Shows very well the way of living of the painter. I recommend to read the novel "Liebe und Tod auf Bali" from Vicky Baum, as some aspects of her book seem to coincide with aspects of his life.
