  • It used to be a port here. There are a few old Dutch buildings along the main road to signify the importance of this place at one time. However the river is no longer deep and only boats and sampan are seen. Unfortunately there are lots of rubbish around here. Muaro is the name of the river (not a delta).
  • Nice place in the evening to stroll around. Make sure u go up to the bridge to get the whole view of this old colonial port and china town on the other side. Try out the grilled sweet cones and banana desert from the stalls by the side of the bridge. The stall keepers will provide u chairs to sit on while u r relaxing and enjoying the evening view😘😘😘😘

Where to stay in Padang

Following the massive earthquake of 2009, accommodation options in Padang have slightly decreased due to the demolishment of some of the city's older hotels. Since then, a spate of more modern hotels and lodgings have cropped up, offering onsite restaurants serving authentic local and international food, Wi-Fi, and air conditioning. Otherwise, family-owned and run guesthouses with clean, basic rooms (and sometimes ensuite bathrooms) remain the best options for budget-conscious backpackers.
