Lake Maninjau, Padang
(4.2/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
Home of sweeping views and small but thriving fish farms, Lake Maninjau remains a peaceful place, despite its popularity with foreign tourists. Formed by a volcanic eruption some 50,000 years ago, this caldera lake sits about 460 m (1,500 ft) above sea level. To reach the lake, take a bus from Bukittinggi. The scenic journey takes visitors down a narrow road making 44 hairpin bends before it reaches the lakeshore. Experience the area on a bicycle, or speed through the lush lakeside surroundings on a motorcycle. If you prefer slower activities, take a canoe trip across the lake. Make Lake Maninjau a centerpiece of your Padang vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Padang vacation trip planner.

  • its a beautiful lake, but the waters smell is so anoying, to foul maybe because this lake used by local people breeds fish in cages.
  • Went on a speed of Padang to Lake Road is good, along the road pretty tea plantations, jungle with monkeys. Many traders that make corn on the grill. For fire and haze using coconut shells. Incredibly delicious. The Lake is surrounded by beautiful nature, mountains and local villages.
