  • You are better off doing it by yourself than going with a tour. To avoid the crowds arrive in town around noon. Settle in your accommodation. Get lunch and then walk to the Bromo crater around 2 pm. It is an easy 1 hour walk. Walk straight to towards the staircase and don't follow the road. It is shorter and you avoid the dust from cars and motorbikes. There are only few people at the crater rim in the late afternoon. Another plus is that they don't seem to charge the entry fee in the afternoon. After getting back get dinner and sleep until 3pm. Get up and go to one of the sunrise spots. Stay until the tour people are gone for more photo opportunities. Enjoy.
  • If you want to enjoy a piece of heaven in the world here is the place and you can taste a little smell of hell on the slopes of the crater. Try using thick jacket if you don't like cold wind here and prepare yourself before trying taking steep stair to get on the slopes of the crater. For accomodation you can get a jeep for about 40 bucks on the gate or you can take a ride with motorcycle for about 10 bucks. If you like horse ride there is also horse rental on the plateau it's about 10 bucks.
  • You got to rent the 4x4 then try the horse ride too. Very nice experience. Make sure you're taking a mask with you. Volcano produces noxious fumes so dangerous to inhale. One of a kind experience. Love it.
  • Very cold in the early morning. You can always walk anywhere, but taking the jeep isn't very expensive and could save you precious time. Views are, of course, fantastic.
  • Wonderful experience here. It was so crowded just to enjoy the sunrise. Better wearing double jacket and gloves because it's freezing me. There are many food stall that sells hot drink and rent for jacket, sweater or gloves
