(2.4/5 based on 120+ reviews on the web)
Conveniently located just a 15-minute becak ride north of the city center, Paotere Harbor represents a bustling hub of seaside and fishing activity. Survey the locally built, famed Bugis ships, which dock here throughout the day and watch as they load and unload goods. Together with the locals working the fisheries, these ships provide a valuable insight into the day-to-day business of the area. Walk down the dock to visit a variety of stalls; head south to experience the vibrant fish market. A visit to Paotere Harbor represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Makassar trip builder to plot your vacation.

  • Traditional boats , made by local craftsmen, interesting to see how they are built , and how they bring fish to makassar fish market
  • Magnificent boats teak are the beauty of this port. See as very authentic. Sailors let you climb aboard their boats. Very interesting. And stop saying it's dirty. The Indonesia is not a country where a garbage man is behind you to pick up your trash! One day attitudes will change.

  • The Paotere Harbor is a must visit for travelers to Makassar. There you can witness ships from all over Indonesia being unloaded with produce and goods. Fascinating.
