Mount Rinjani National Park, Lombok
(3.3/5 based on 100+ reviews on the web)
Way up in the clouds, Mount Rinjani National Park impresses with its mountain ridges and summits, volcanoes, and a turquoise lake at the center. The park lies within the major transition zone, featuring an Australasia climate and the plant and animal life to go with it. On your trip keep your eye out for the long-tailed grey macaque, ebony leaf monkey, and sulphur crested cockatoo, among others. Many visitors choose to hike and camp on site, with local trekking tours coordinating porters and guides. Be prepared for challenging hiking, which demands the right equipment and a moderate skill level. An eruption in October 2015 caused the park to close temporarily; check the website before you go to see what's currently open. • I have no idea what the park officials and the local government is doing with the mountains of money tourists are paying every day to visit this rubbish dump (150.000 per person, of course - as always...  more »
  • You will enter the largest garbage in the open air of Indonesia. Staged by Rijani National Park, the right input is a bit expensive, but largely justified, because it took time to decorate this wonderful site of bold papers, plastics, bottles and maintain the bad smells everywhere. So unique are kind! Rinjani National Park thanks for all this work of staging Visual and olfactory! I Board so this trek only to presbyopes, because you will only see the scenery, not the garbage at your feet. For a better experience, take the walking sticks and a nose clip. Or simply choose South Lombok (top!).

  • The Park natural is an environment beautiful, especially the part of Senaru. The climb to the volcano is very hard but highly recommended. Unfortunately, local people above all, sheds the waste (mainly organic) to the ground, making sure at rest points and in the camp, landscape is something dirty and detracts rather. The experience is unique, but it is true that by the way garbage you can take a bittersweet...
