#4 of 12 in Nature in Lombok
Island Nature / Park
Visit Gili Islands, a set of three islands just off the coast with unspoiled landscape. With no automobiles allowed on the islands, they possess a castaway charm. Spend time on the beach, or take a trip out into the surrounding waters for some of the most popular and biologically diverse dive sites in the region. Take a day tour of the three islands to enjoy their individual vibes and collective charm before spending the evening in a bar watching the sunset over a glass of ice cold beer. Arrange your visit to Gili Islands and discover more family-friendly attractions in Senggigi using our Senggigi family vacation planner.

  • THE MAGIC OF THE GILIS... After a little inner fight's pulls me despite the developments of the past decade repeatedly on the Gilis (cf. my review of 2014): once in the year-I put four weeks on one of three islets, once again on Gili Air. Confirm the observations by 2014. The process of "building to" continues unabated. Not only the last gaps on the shoreline around the island are slowly closed with new plants, in the resort itself a few houses are squeezed in the soothing spaces between the houses more, to catch the wave of guest in peak times. Meanwhile, however, additional developments are clear: the abundance of accommodation has reached a level that go to more and more plants and let go bankrupt. Although an attractive bungalow is to find, the sloshing of guests, a few nights on the Gilis wanting to build vacation to Indonesia in their too big in the two peak months of July and August is difficult. But in the months before and after the empty accommodation fight to every guest, sometimes with self-destructive low prices. What may welcome the one or the other Schnäpchenjäger, is open but sour the guest expects a certain level of enjoyment, aesthetics and functionality. Because the condition of buildings and equipment and the quality of service provided yet a massive shortage of funds for the additional reduction of maintenance are of course suffers if in addition to the certain Indonesian reliability and service standard results. Little remains for this frequent throughout the year straight times 35% receipt rate. And deck chairs, bamboo benches, tables, the thatched roofs, bathrooms, mosquito nets should be, not just scruffy, but often broken and sometimes hardly used the seat cushions. The guest made his selection menu, often follows the retort "tidak ada, sorry, we don't have". The service is lousy, because the boys and girl although kindly and willingly, but completely inexperienced, are without guidance, and without feeling, what matters. "Trainees" are school leavers, who exchanged work without real pay and every few months, keep the budget small often. This creates frustration. Not with any tourists, but among the guests, who - as above on - says - expect a certain quality at their holiday destination. The insufficiency word gets around among these guests, and it is increasing that the hoped-for "arrivals" stay out and even in the times of peak-season endless rows of Deckchair on the beach, tables and chairs in the restaurants remain empty. Right, the "hot spots", on the seats that are just "in" at the moment, the people crowd '. But right next to it there is a yawning emptiness. Nevertheless, it is built more and more. Instead of to improve old, to renew, or to maintain, only good, more and more houses, more resorts are built and opened. What was still absolutely "in" a few years ago, accommodations, bars, to celebrate the sunset restaurant, legendary "legends" on Gili Air, for example, or the Gili Air resort with its unique location, looks today shabby, empty and sad. Let's hope that's not so successful the Gilis in toto. Because the expected construction ruins disappear not by alone, the State of nature itself does not restore. Still, the old magic attracts me the Gilis still under her spell despite any anger about the excesses of recent years. And if one looks carefully, you'll find even a small place that has kept this magic here or there.

  • Almost overrun by people, all trash (where should people with your trash?), outrageous prices imposed by the Coachmen of the horse which must ultimately be paid, because there is no other means of transport. The little horses before the carriages can do a really sorry. The locals living in often poor conditions, sometimes almost a slum next to a nice hotel or a villa. Nevertheless, all "Trawanganer" except the Coachmen are nice, helpful and lose not a unkind word. Some beautiful beaches. (Just as beautiful beaches, if not even more beautiful can be; found E.g. in Sardinia two-hour flight instead of 14-15 to Lombok plus boat transfer) Little Snorkel tour: almost everything under water dead, seen a few marine animals. Can be dependent upon location. For 4-5 Trawanga days sure is ok, but then it should go quickly.

  • It is exactly as on the picture postcards. Nice quiet and welcoming. Restaurants were quiet but nowhere to drag as in the Spanish were to your beach resorts. A neat Hi was sufficient. You can enjoy delicious food for almost outrageous low prices ... try "Scallywags". Mega tasty, for people who still want to see things they were so good that we are on the last day breakfast, sun bed, lunch and bbq have enjoyed there. (it's still vacation!) You can be super nice snorkeling, I wouldn't go on such a ' see turtles tour ' just off the beach in the water and a piece of swimming. Finding nemo, there's nothing to see at and turtles are good! Snorkels and everything is there to hire, like cycling. Super island!

Where to stay in Senggigi

Senggigi offers several types of accommodations to suit different needs, from budget-friendly hotels in prime locations by the beach, to midrange central lodgings right next to entertainments and amenities. Places to stay lie spread out along the coastline, so book ahead of time in order to avoid hauling things back and forth in search of the perfect accommodations. Do note, however, that many restaurants offer free car rides to and from lodgings, and taxi rides are very inexpensive. Light sleepers: avoid basing yourself by the mosque, as the early morning prayer calls are very audible.
