Go snorkling, surfing, or turtle-spotting at Gili Air Island, popular for its tropical scenery and laid-back atmosphere. No motor vehicles are allowed on the island, giving it an air of calm that is sometimes missing in other parts of Indonesia. Though horseback tours are offered, you might want to consider an alternative as some visitors have reported abuse of the animals by local guides. Walking the circumference of the island takes about two and a half hours, but be sure to pack supplies as some areas are still quite wild--you might find yourself half an hour from the nearest shop or restaurant. Gili Air Island reviews
This island is for people who want a tropical island holiday. There are night spots, dozens of eateries without the duff duff music. Shops galore 4 24 hour medical clinics. Crystal clear water and... more »
Gili air is located between gili trawangan and gili meno but i prefer Gili Air because not too crowded like trawangan but not very quiet like gili meno. This place is great for spending time watching.... more »
With the benefit of hindsight I'm not so sure the trip was worth it. The 4 hour Scoot boat is horrific and loses a day. Fine if you're an unemployed hippie on a gap year finding yourself and time is..... more »
Love Gili Air. People are friendly and genuine. Beautiful waters and food is amazing!! The island has fully recovered from the recent earthquake and many tourists are back. Gili Air looks awesome rebuilt and better than ever. Happy to see everyone going about business as usual.
What a gem! On Gili Air we found: “Flowers and Fire” Yoga garden, a retreat of calm and delight. Our hosts were warm and helpful. The coffee equalled the best in Sydney. Everything was aesthetically pleasing and so comfortable—fans and air conditioning in all the rooms. The Yoga studios, the salas, of which there were two, were amazing. The treetop one fantastic. For yoga practitioners, prepare for some of the best teaching anywhere. Do not miss this experience of heaven in Gili Air! Ricki Randall
Personally having been there 3 times alone this year, I have made the island of Gili Trawangan my go-to retreat. I do not understand the complaints that some people have of this place being "touristy". While there are many options for you there to be away from the hustle and bustle of the main strip on the sunrise side, make no mistake, Gili Trawangan IS a tourist island. If you are looking for less "touristy" spots, Gili Meno and Gili Air are better options. I love Gili T. due to the laid back nature of the locals, the good food, the great sea views, the abundance of activities there, the vibrant party scene and also the option of just chilling and relaxing at the many quieter spots around the island. While this place is not for everyone, it definitely is a paradise for me. While the earthquakes have devastated a huge portion of the island, it is time for a rebuild, and I am already contributing toward that.
Gili T was awful the worst place for tourists. It’s dirty smelly and the locals are completely rude. The locals only smile and talk to you when you have money out the rest of the time are miserable and sour. If your gay or lesbian please expect lots of comments and stares and people talking about you in a different language. The only good thing is how cheap it is to stay here.
The most beautiful place I have ever been.
