Kanawa Island, Labuan Bajo

(3.5/5 based on 360+ reviews on the web)
Rest on the tiny Kanawa Island, home to pristine white sands, thatched huts, and turquoise waters. Rent a mask and flippers and simply walk into the shallow reef-sheltered ocean to enjoy world-class snorkeling. Many tropical fish swim just steps from the shore, with small sharks, turtles, and other creatures farther out towards the reefs. Climb the small hill rising in the center of the island for panoramic views, keeping an eye out for eagles, wild goats, and other animals. Local businesses only accept cash, and as the island offers few amenities, bring your own supplies and lots of sunscreen and insect repellent. Using our world travel planner, Labuan Bajo attractions like Kanawa Island can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • We were on this island as a final part of our 2-day trek in the Komodo Park. It is a small and tranquil island which can be lounging on the beach or snorkeling on the nearby reefs. There is a restaurant and a short walk can be done also. It is not too special, but it is a good choice in a longer tour. The downside is that you have to pay for everything, from the entry of the vessel to the chairs.
