  • The water was very clear. The fish in the pond were friendly (or I don't know. I just love seeing them swimming near me).  more »

  • We went with a guide who really helped us out you need to but a ticket to enter about 30,000 and you get a sarong to wear (for small donation) if you want to enter the water you need to hire a different sarong and a key to a locker (this want that much) you get changed in to your sarong enter the water. The guide was really helpful you only wash under 11 of the 13 water fountains in the first pool and then under 2 on the second pool. The place has a great energy and you feel really refreshed after going in the holy spring water. You can go without going in to the holy water but for me this was the best part!
  • Beautiful temple with a nice surrounding, many people do the cleaning in the water here. Pretty much touristic though. Many shops you have to pass on exit. It's not the quiet and natural temple you might look for.
  • What a powerful place! Whether you're spiritual or not, this spot will make you feel a unique energy. Watching the springs well up from below is mesmerizing. It's a meditative place, and I hear the moonlight festival is something to behold.
  • Surreal experience. The crowd may be off putting at times but the structures and ambience will bring you back in time and relive the Hindu way of life. You will come across a lot of souvenir shops upon your exit. Be sure to bargain by at least 70% off the quoted price.
  • Very nice area, walk around in the rural area before you enter the temple! It's way more authentic than closer to Ubud. Also, the temple and it's ceremonies are beautiful! Yet many tourists seem just to do the ceremony for fun, and only a few people come along and do the proper ceremony. Overall though lovely, and a really beautiful water source that inspired the ritual!

Where to stay in Gianyar

Neighboring Ubud has more to offer in terms of accommodations, but Gianyar itself boasts a feeling of being off the beaten track--something its more frequented neighbor cannot provide. Stay in simple guesthouses for a real taste of life on the island at a low cost, or consider one of the more attractive resorts, where quirky architecture complements the scenic features of the landscape.
