Bali Pulina Agro Tourism, Gianyar

4.3
#4 of 35 in Outdoors in Gianyar
At Bali Pulina Agro Tourism, discover how to harvest, roast, and prepare kopi luwak--the famous (or infamous) beverage made from coffee cherries partially digested by the Asian palm civet, known locally as the luwak. See each step in the production process, including the luwaks themselves, before sampling the prized coffee. If the thought of drinking something that has already been eaten once puts you off, you can always enjoy a sweet tea instead. The wooden viewing platform where you enjoy your hot drink provides sweeping views of the neighboring terraces of rice paddies. We had not planned to stop in this coffee plantation, but our guide we had kindly advised... We were not at all disappointed by this step not only because we were treated to a tasting of coffee and the memorable (especially not being of great lovers of coffee) but we have received explanations on the production of coffee and culture to sleep many other things... But the most enjoyable time was the discovery of a great view during our tasting. For the tasting, it's free so don't ask no specially the coffee or tea because you will anyway. However the coffee of the animal is paid if you want, but I recommend it (even if it is expensive (50000rp), it was worth)... The visit and tasting seems so free but I think this is may not be the case if you don't buy anything at the coffee shop... In short, excellent tasting in a beautiful setting ;)

The beautiful sight of the rice paddies is blighted by a huge construction of hotel and hospitality in the place is mediocre. There is so much more beautiful in Bali! The cafe is very expensive. We feel the tourist trap! Civet coffee has grown in popularity in Indonesia. A growing number of wild Civets are locked in cages on the coffee plantations in part for the production of coffee, and charging tourists who want to observe the animal. A very interesting article on kopi luwak, its appeal to tourists and its derivatives on the exploitation of animals came out in National Geographic 01/03/17. Very interesting. I don't know whether or not caged in this plantation Civets are wild but captivity conditions are sad. Do not encourage it!

Where to stay in Gianyar

Neighboring Ubud has more to offer in terms of accommodations, but Gianyar itself boasts a feeling of being off the beaten track--something its more frequented neighbor cannot provide. Stay in simple guesthouses for a real taste of life on the island at a low cost, or consider one of the more attractive resorts, where quirky architecture complements the scenic features of the landscape.
