Mount Kelimutu, Flores

Categories: Volcanos, Nature & Parks
Inspirock Rating:
4.5/5 based on 340+ reviews on the web
Admire the vivid hues of the three crater lakes at the summit of Mount Kelimutu, a volcano which last erupted in 1968. Although the exact color of the lakes changes frequently, perhaps due to chemical reactions triggered by volcanic ash, you will most commonly find them blue, green, and red, respectively, as they appear on the 5,000-rupiah bank note. Although the lakes provide the biggest tourist draw, the rugged, forest-clad mountain scenery is spectacular in its own right. Ignore the local tour guides, as the lakes are easy to find from the parking lot and information posters supply plenty of details about them.
