Arjuna Temple, Dieng
Categories: Ruins, Sacred & Religious Sites, Tourist Spots
Feel centuries of history at Arjuna Temple, the largest of a cluster of temples thought to be the oldest stone structures in Central Java. Today it's the northernmost and best preserved of the four remaining temples, which are arranged in a north-to-south line. Find the cleverly designed altar inside the temple, and notice its bowl-shaped hollow that collects rainwater and diverts it outside to prevent flooding. Walk up the nearby hill to a fifth stone temple, where a small museum displays artifacts from the area. You can get a combined ticket that includes entry to Sikidang Crater. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Dieng holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Arjuna Temple and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.
