Jam Gadang Bukittinggi, Bukittinggi

3.9
Take a moment to appreciate the Art Deco design of Jam Gadang Bukittinggi. The 26 m (85 ft) clock tower has undergone a few changes since its construction in 1926. Originally a dome affixed with a rooster capped the white tower, but the Japanese replaced this with an ornament resembling a Shinto shrine during their occupation. Following Indonesian independence in the 1940s, this was again replaced with the traditional Indonesian roof style still in place today. Horse drawn carts offering sightseeing tours gather in the clock tower square. • This clock tower is ever by the Dutch at the time given to the Minangkabau people. After the independence of Indonesia, they have the roof out. A separate phenomenon, therefore, made of mixed architectural styles.

  • A nice historical monument, has small souvenir shops around it, horse chariots parked around it and you could ride it anytime you want as long as you pay for it. This place is pretty protected, I saw like rangers or polices or securities I guess? Many people go there. I would recommend you to walk, because the parking for vehicles are difficult
  • This is landmark of bukittinggi city and sumatra barat. You can enjoy a fresh air and walk around the park. There is a mall beside the park and you can shopping and have a good meal
  • First timer here in another city icon! A bunch of crowds with tourists and local people taking afternoon stroll with various local food sellers. I remembered I tried a local snack called Kerupuk Siram / Kerupuk Leak if I'm not mistaken. It's a cracker made from cassava, served with Padang's curry sauce and rice noodle. Sooo tasty!!!! It can be found around the area and only costs 4k idr!
  • Amazing spots not to be missed!! Clean lawn with many tourist local and local souvenirs is available each and every corner..
  • Most famous landmark in Bukittinggi, there is a square, a park and a market in surrounding, a spot for picnic, shopping and take pictures. It says that the building was built using egg white. Some says that people can go up the tower, but the gate was locked during my visit.
