Categories: Forests, Wildlife Areas, Nature & Parks
Inspirock Rating:
4.1/5 based on 110+ reviews on the web
Established in 1973 as a home for ex-captive orangutans, The Bohorok Orangutan Centre at Bukit Lawang has since played an important role in the readjustment of these animals to the wild after captivity. Here you can visit them and observe how they live in what is close to their natural habitat. No longer a rehabilitation center for orangutans, the site now acts as an area for tourists to be taken on guided treks through the national park, where sightings of the orangutan are common. It is important that no physical contact is made with the animals, as orangutans are highly susceptible to a number of human illnesses. • a jungle tour is a must. We were with the two of us with 1 Guide. Unfortunately for disabled people this tour less suitable because it some climbing required.

  • Nice hotel with at the back instantly jungle and view of the Valley. Rooms are clean, water jet shower could be better and our room had no curtains at the front which makes getting up at sunrise. Staff is very friendly and everything is possible. No credit card machine and ATM kilometers away so get plenty of cash. Here jungle-trekking done, top. The guides Anyanlah (Angela) and Ari are young but well informed and know the way the back of their hand. 10 UrangUtans seen that day, loose, mother and child and a very impressive male. Also singing Gibbons, very nice. The receiving host Adi, speaks good English and is just like the others the kindness itself. Food here is fine and affordable. A must. In addition to the draw there is also the possibility to an elephant care. On the ground a lot, elephant ride can but often already full. Reduced you can get involved with Elephants wash which is very fun. (Closed on Friday). The road here is no B-way but something of a Z-path. Unbelievable that there are such bad roads exist. Another way-warning: from Medan out of town is via the Centre to do good, then another two hours over a very bad road. You have to be but imagine there on in. Joan and Harry Amstelveen
