Mount Sibayak, Berastagi

(4.6/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
Climb to the top of Mount Sibayak for panoramic views of North Sumatra. Anyone of average fitness can manage the trek, which takes about five hours if you climb straight up, or a little longer if you set off through the jungle from a nearby waterfall. You can also take a minibus part of the way up the volcano if you prefer a shorter two-hour climb. At the summit of this stratovolcano is a small crater lake, colored bright green due to the sulfurous gases that seep into it. On the way down, take a dip in the hot springs. Wear sturdy shoes, bring warm clothes, and be prepared for sudden changes of weather. You won't need a guide unless you take the jungle route, but you may still wish to consider one if you are inexperienced or visiting alone. • Our original plan was to hike the entire route, 5-7 hours if starting from the town of Berastagi. Instead, upon arrival from Lake Toba, our driver purposely stopped at their main office in Berastagi a...  more »
  • You have here a very nice views of two operating volcanoes, as it is clear. As good as it is not clear then you have beautiful views.

  • To ascend up to the volcano, you have two options, the easy taking one of the taxis located at the entrance of the Park, will take you almost to the top (you will be a light trekking of half an hour) and the second option which is to attack the strong ramps with optimism and enjoying the jungle that surrounds you, the road is good (it takes between 60 and 90 minutes depending on each one. Once enjoyed the fumaroles and the exceptional views (from the crater Sibayung, another volcano in the area see), there are two options, returning by the same route or go down the opposite side, a challenge, since you will face you all kinds of natural obstacles, in the end the path has a prize: the hot spring, fantastic thermal baths. Tip: If you go in the fun way you sudarás butt, wearing clothing replacement, although there is also a snack bar that sells shorts and t-shirts as well as cold drinks in the hot springs cheap. To enjoy butt.
