Barelang Bridge, Batam

#7 of 101 in Things to do in Batam
Admire the engineering ingenuity of Barelang Bridge--actually a chain of six bridges connecting the islands of Batam, Rempang, and Galang, each using a different structural technique. Together they span a total of 2 km (1.2 mi) over a 50 km (31.1 mi) stretch of road. The Tengku Fisabilillah Bridge, the most visually impressive (and most visited) of the six, features a cable-stayed design with two 118 m (387 ft) high pylons. If you forget your camera, professional photographers will take your picture with the bridge in the background. All bridges are different, their total length of about 2 km. , construction began in 1992 each year bridge called the name of the rulers of Indonesian Riau Province with 15 to 18 century. Tengku Fisabilillah bridge connects Batam Island to Taunton. This is the most popular bridge for residents and visitors to Batam. Bridge with two 118-foot pillars and radiating from them strings length its 642 meters. Next to the bridge on Batam is an observation deck with spectacular views. At the bottom near the shore-Cafe, where you can dine on fresh delicious fish. On the other side of the mass of stalls with corn grilled with coconuts, chips and drinks. On weekends, a lot of people on the bridge, which arranges picnic on the roadside. Immediately around the edges of the road a bunch of small shopping carts with strange food and a crowd of photographers, offering to make a picture of the famous bridge. It was interesting to gawk at the local people sit on the shore in an empty Cafe (all local sit with his meal on the bridge), look at the shores of nearby islands.

  • Currently under renovation the entrance but you still can use small pathways. Good view from the bridge. You'll meet alots of instant photography service here and fried lobster and prawns on stick. It's better to books taxi back to city or travel bus before come here or check the public transportation schedule. It's so hard to find taxi from here, me and my friend ended up ask for motorcycle service to sent us back to where we can take public transportation.
  • This is one of six bridges along Batam Rempang Galang. The best time to go to first bridge is in the morning. Not much people there, and you can have a picture freely. You can park not so far from the stage and walk to instagramable icon. From the stage you can see first and second bridges. Please not to park on the bridge.
