Maha Vihara Duta Maitreya Temple, Batam Center

4.3
#1 of 8 in Historic Sites in Batam
Smile along with Buddha at Maha Vihara Duta Maitreya Temple, one of the largest Buddhist temples in Southeast Asia. The spacious structure is dedicated to Maitreya, the laughing Buddha. Admire the many statues inside, showing the charming Buddha smiling, having tea, and communicating with various animals. Twelve statues outside represent the animals of the Chinese zodiac, which is based on year--you can find your zodiac animal and compare characteristics. Enjoy the scenic view from the balcony, or take some memorable photos at this tranquil place. Try the diverse and delicious meals in the temple's vegetarian restaurant. • It's a massive temple impressive in it's own right. You'll notice how spotlessly clean it is upon arrival. Though at the moment of writing the temple is still undergoing some minor touching up. Not just the size, also look for the wood carvings adorning the walls. There's also a gift shop there, but some of the items appear to be non-Buddhism related.
  • 5 stars for the Vihara.. 2 stars for the vegetarian food (too expensive, with unfriendly service - shame on you). In Jakarta, Bandung, Borneo, Medan many temple and Vihara give free vegetarian food (in lunar cue it or cap go each month)
  • It's the largest Buddhist temple in Batam. Has good building structure and well maintained. It has calmness atmosphere which anyone can experienced since there's no restriction of whom to visit as long as we can maintain the sincerity. This place can be accessed from almost everywhere since it's located in Batam center, but best direction is from Batam Center International Harbour. Avoid traveling from Laksamana Bintan Street or from Sungai Panas area if you don't want to get the traffic jam.
  • Great exposure compared to the usual temples in sg and msia. Huge, posh and clean. Has a souvenir shop and cafe run by student volunteers too. Pleasant bunch of kids. Great and peaceful place.
  • This place got school from elementary till college now, if you are one of those vegetarian guy this place is suitable for you. Ini here they got place for people to pray and a vegetarian restaurant too. A cozy place to chill sometimes. And every year they always have events there, whether it is bazaar or culture dance.
