Smile along with Buddha at Maha Vihara Duta Maitreya Temple, one of the largest Buddhist temples in Southeast Asia. The spacious structure is dedicated to Maitreya, the laughing Buddha. Admire the many statues inside, showing the charming Buddha smiling, having tea, and communicating with various animals. Twelve statues outside represent the animals of the Chinese zodiac, which is based on year--you can find your zodiac animal and compare characteristics. Where to stay in Batam

Batam offers accommodations ranging from small hotels and apartments to large beach resorts, but without much in the budget department. By far the most popular spot to stay is Nagoya in the center of Batam city, on the north coast of the island. There you'll find plenty of activity, including a range of bars and restaurants, as well as close proximity to the beach. For something a bit quieter, try a spot close to the beach in Nongsa, on the island's east coast.

  • A major Chinese Temple and one that made the must visit list for us. Beautifully maintained, breathtaking architecture, manicured grounds and more.
  • Major attraction in Batam This Temple is one of the biggest Buddhist temples in South East Asia and very close to Batam ferry center. There are big statues of Buddha, Kuan Yin and Kwan Kong. We had very delicious lunch at vegetarian restaurant inside the temple (Must try!). Since this is a major attraction of Batam, always full of tourists here.
  • Big Temple with alot of Matreiya statue
  • Most visited tourism destination. Don't forget to try the vegetarian food.
