Museum Asia Afrika, Bandung
Categories: Specialty Museums, Museums
Learn about one of Indonesia's earliest foreign policy achievements at Museum Asia Afrika. The museum celebrates and records the history of the 1955 Bandung Conference, also known as the first Asian-African Conference. Leaders from 29 countries, many of whom had recently gained independence, gathered to promote Afro-Asian economic and cultural cooperation, and to oppose colonialism or neocolonialism by any nation. The museum presents a somewhat sanitized version of events, glossing over the various human rights abuses of many of the participants, but the archive footage, correspondence, and Art Deco architecture make for a interesting diversion.
