Kapal Tsunami, Banda Aceh
(3.9/5 based on 120+ reviews on the web)
Pay your respects to the victims of the 2004 tsunami at Kapal Tsunami, memorializing the natural disaster that wreaked havoc on the town of Aceh. Witness a displaced barge, pushed 5 km (3.1 mi) from its original mooring, which now sits on pavement. The barge now houses a museum depicting the tragic events of that day. Survey further damage from the rooftop of the barge, which gives you a panoramic view of the wounded city. Outside, a bronze wave statue gives a true-to-size representation of the debilitating surf that crashed over the city. There are many more displaced boats to see, including one fishing boat now sitting atop a house.
