Jemeluk Beach, Amed

4.2
#3 of 40 in Things to do in Amed
Beach Nature / Park
Walk into the water at Jemeluk Beach, and within a few steps find yourself surrounded by tropical fish of every color. The immediacy of the teeming coral reefs, combined with the shallow water and weak currents, make the bay ideal for beginner snorkelers and divers. Several diving schools operate on site, so you can easily learn or hone your technique. The stoney black sands with boats pulled up all along their length don't favor sunbathers, but they certainly create a picturesque setting for a seaside stroll. You won't go hungry at the beach, with plenty of good restaurants serving up delicious fresh seafood. Please be careful about standing on coral while swimming, as this kills the coral permanently. Where to stay in Amed

With limited access to television and no guarantee of Wi-Fi or the personal touch of village hospitality, many accommodations in Amed feel like stepping back in time. However, the recent boom in tourism has also brought with it the luxury beach resorts and Western-owned hotels better known in other areas of Bali. For the latter, aim for Amed or Tulamben townships, in the north of the region and close to the wreck of the USS Liberty. If you're after something more authentic, try the quieter villages farther south.
