  • Fort Amsterdam is a very well preserved or restored Fort, the second to be built by the Dutch in Ambon. In this place, where the Fort was built in the year 1599 is Amsterdam, or Benteng, there was also the first Fort of the Portuguese. Here, the spices that had brought the ships of the Dutch from the other islands of the Moluccas, have been stored and dried before they were transported. Here, at Fort Amsterdam, also the famous blind German biologist Georg Eberhard Rumphius native worked (1627-1702) from nearby Frankfurt/m., who wrote one of the first books about the flora of the Moluccas. You can climb up to the top floor of the Fort on new wood stairs. There is very beautiful views of the island of Ceram and the Church of Hila. The way here takes city of Ambon about an hour, the trip to Fort Amsterdam should necessarily nor oldest mosque and the visible church by Hila can visit the nearby mosque of the Fort.
