Home to nearly 370 mammals, 400 birds, and 20 reptiles, Mahendra Chaudhary Zoological Park is probably best know as the home of the Bengal tiger. The largest zoo in Northern India, this venue is easily explored by electric cart, allowing visitors to access tamed wilderness areas inhabited by Himalayan black bears, jaguars, stripped hyenas, zebras, Indian pythons, white peacocks, and many other exotic animals. For an additional thrill, hop on a short but exciting lion safari. Mahendra Chaudhary Zoological Park Reviews
We visited Chandigarh over the Diwali long weekend and the Zoo was one of the main attractions that prompted the trip. Being parents to a 2 year old who loves animals, we decided to take her there. An... more »

Nice place to go with kids. Please avoid going in hot weather. Try to get on to the battery operated carriage. Carry drinking water along. Stay away and don't mess with the zoo inmates. Just enjoy wat... more »
A great place to see different phase of nature at just 1 place. Decent eating points make it a good place for children and old people to enjoy the zoo. One can easily available the ferry service if they don't want to walk but it's demerit is you have to complete everything in just 1 hour. Walking is the best if you enjoy every sight without any disturbance. Best place for kids and children to enjoy.
Absolutely fun place to visit with family. Be prepared to walk... a Lot as this zoo is pretty huge. Or you can simply dole out more cash for availing the hop on/off golf carts to take you from section to section. The food in the cafe is... OK... The "Lion safari" was a bit disappointing since there were just 3 animals, and they were ANYWAY inside a cage... Didn't see the point of making guests pay extra to get into a bus to show the lions... Overall, very fun, and my family (especially the kids and grandparents) had a great time. This is definitely a great place to visit at least once.
Nice place for picnic. Many animals are there. Reptile house is there. Condition of animals is also good. You cannot feed them. You can take the food along with you inside the zoo but they will not allow the brand name water bottles. The one you use to buy in 20 bucks. The environment of zoo is completely jungle type. Many unique birds are there. Its a good place for family visit as well.
It's a big zoo.... Lot of tigers... Lion safari is not worth according to me.. I mean you have to pay 50 rupees for just 5 minutes of bus ride and 2 sleeping lions.... Otherwise the zoo is great.... It costs only 50 rupees as entry fee and another 50 for electric car... Although I recommend to explore it on foot
A full day fun for kids with learning about animals/birds. 2-4 hours of time pass one can expect for. Snack/tea/coffee stalls are available at different places inside the zoo. So it is a must visit place for locals. One may face parking problem in peak hours.

Where to stay in Chandigarh
The most popular hotels in Chandigarh tend to be located in Sector 22. Chain hotels usually occupy the corners of major streets, and particularly refined options boast views of the city's well-maintained green areas. Budget rooms can be found farther from the center and include a few hostels, guesthouses, and basic hotels in the residential areas. The restaurants and cafes of Sector 17 remain a major draw in the center of town. Located right next to Sector 22, the area also offers some of the most luxurious rooms in town.
