Shevaroy Temple, Yercaud

3.9
#1 of 11 in Historic Sites in Salem District
Perched at an altitude of 1,623 m (5,326 ft) sits Shevaroy Temple, a dark hermetic cave that shelters the idols of Lord Shevaroyan and goddess Kaveri. The panoramic view of the surrounding mountains from this plateau-like summit will give you plenty of photo ops. Upon entry stands the deity's idol, while a darkened tunnel behind it continues inward--according to temple's priests, it extends about 480 km (290 mi). Nice cool weather at such altitudes makes the visit refreshing and enjoyable, but bring extra clothing just in case. • Its a small cave temple on top of shevaroy hills with big lawn space available nearby. There was giant wheel, Columbus ride, horse ride, ATV ride available for time pass. The local shops here sell goat leg potato (veg) and soup made out of it. Looks like its good cure for lungs cough and joint pains. There are some nice view points as well.
  • Considered to be the highest point of Yercaud. This temple can be accessed by two and four wheeler. The entrance is chargeable of 10Rs/vehcile. The view from here is amazing. A must visit place. Needs proper cleaning and inspection. This place is filled with product and bottle waste. Several in civilised people use this place for alcohol consumption. This place remains to be one of the trademark location of Yercaud but the municipality hasn't taken much care about the maintenance.
  • This is a cave temple. Outside it looks like normal temple. After entered the temple i realised it is a cave temple. Two view points are there. No entry ticket. Instant photo, tea, coffee, and special attukal soup available there.
  • A small old cave temple, the deity is Lord Vishnu (Perumal) and the yercaud draws it's ancient name of Sevvarayan hills from this diety only
  • Temple present in small cave at the to of the hills. nice place and loving atmosphere, some local shops are present near the temple.
