Shevaroy Temple, Yercaud

4.0
#1 of 11 in Historic Sites in Salem District
Religious Site Tourist Spot
Perched at an altitude of 1,623 m (5,326 ft) sits Shevaroy Temple, a dark hermetic cave that shelters the idols of Lord Shevaroyan and goddess Kaveri. The panoramic view of the surrounding mountains from this plateau-like summit will give you plenty of photo ops. Upon entry stands the deity's idol, while a darkened tunnel behind it continues inward--according to temple's priests, it extends about 480 km (290 mi). Nice cool weather at such altitudes makes the visit refreshing and enjoyable, but bring extra clothing just in case. • The main temple (inside a cave) is said to be over a thousand years old. The cave is very spiritual. This place is very clean and well maintained. It is also on the highest point in Yercaud with wonderful views of the surroundings.
  • As a South Indian Temple, you have many other wonders... But, it is told that there is a tunnel connecting to Mysore Palace (?) As the Peak Of Yercaud, the surrounding area is scenic and beautiful.. Clean and neat.. Rushy during vaccinations, seasons and celebrations.
  • “A good experience” The temple is located at the highest point in Yercaud and the weather great here. Nice and cool. The temple also is interesting with the deity being accessible by walking through a cave.
  • Oxygen level was low in the cave, but u can feel more spiritual power there...
  • One of the best places to visit in Yercaud. Since the place is in high altitude, it will be considerably cold, so better carry the necessary items. Forest fruits are also available
