Wonder at the ornate edifice of Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Temple, dedicated to Lord Narasimha, an incarnation of Vishnu that presents as a lion-man. The Kalinga architecture of the central shrine features an abundance of iconography, and the star attraction here remains the deity, perhaps dating back to the 11th century. Once a year they remove the sandalwood paste from the deity, revealing it to worshippers before reapplying the cover 12 hours later. Join the numerous devotees who flock to the lush green hilltop to pay their respects, some even making a 25 km (15.5 mi) pilgrimage around the hills before coming to the temple to give offerings to Narasimha.
