Simhachalam Temple, Visakhapatnam
(4.5/5 based on 360+ reviews on the web)
Wonder at the ornate edifice of Simhachalam Temple, dedicated to Lord Narasimha, an incarnation of Vishnu that presents as a lion-man. The Kalinga architecture of the central shrine features an abundance of iconography, and the star attraction here remains the deity, perhaps dating back to the 11th century. Once a year they remove the sandalwood paste from the deity, revealing it to worshippers before reapplying the cover 12 hours later. Join the numerous devotees who flock to the lush green hilltop to pay their respects, some even making a 25 km (15.5 mi) pilgrimage around the hills before coming to the temple to give offerings to Narasimha. • Old, peaceful, calm and powerful Narasimha Swamy temple on hill top. Beautiful architecture. Small Shiva temple is also available in the premises. Must visit temple if you are visiting vizag. There is a pillar called Kappa stambham, which means Frog Pillar. Who ever wishes for something and hold the hands together after holding the pillar, their wish will come true. Ofcourse the pillar is quite big in girth. Also, the antaralaya darshan where you can see the diety closely is a wonderful experience
  • Lord Sri Lakshmi Varaha Narasimha Swamy Temple. It is the rarest of rarest temple as two incarnations of Lord Vishnu is with Lakshmi Devi ammavaaru. Varaha Avathaar and Narasimha Avathaar along with LakshmiDevi ammavaru we can see here. All through year the main deity will be covered with full of Sandalwood paste. Yearly, in the month of May probably, the Sandalwood paste from the deity will be removed to give nija (actual) darshan of the deity. On that day the deity is said to be having lot of heat that we cannot actually bear. The Lord Narasimha is known for his anger and so it is said that the deity here will be too hot to bear and hence the Sandalwood paste offered onto him will cool him. Its a must watch place for every Sanathana Dharma believer. Om Namo Naarayanaaya.
