Perched on Indrakeeladri hill on the banks of River Krishna, Kanakadurga Temple makes a popular Hindu pilgrimage center. Dating back to the 8th century, the shrine to Goddess Durga ranks as the second-largest temple in Andhra Pradesh. The spot provides an excellent view of the city, the river, Gandhi Hill, the huge Prakasam barrage, and Bhavani Island. Inside the temple, ornamented with bright flowers, a 1.2 m high (4 ft) icon of the deity holds a powerful weapon in each of her eight arms, piercing the demon Mahishasura with her trident.     Parking on reaching top of the hill temple is difficult to find. In rush timings, better to go by steps. Don't forget to have darshan of Lord Malleswara Swamy (Shiva) which is away from the main...

    Lovely temple. . the main deity is Goddess Durga. . there are many other deities as well. . mobile phones strictly prohibited. . different queues for free darshan & paid darshan with different.....  more
