Jalakandeswarar Temple, Vellore
Categories: Sacred & Religious Sites, Tourist Spots
Located inside a fortification, visit Jalakandeswarar Temple which honors Lord Shiva. Admire the architectural ornaments dating back to the reign of King Sadasivadeva Maharaya (1540 - 1572 AD) with intricate carvings on the 30 m (100 ft) tall tower and the heavy wooden door. Enjoy the atmosphere inside the temple where the hall stands supported by pillars of stone with carved horses, lion like beasts, and even dragons. Make a wish and place your hands on the earthen lamp behind the statue of the bull of Lord Shiva; if the lamp revolves, your wish will come true.
