Fort Vellore, Vellore

(3.7/5 based on 150+ reviews on the web)
See the remnants of the past embodied in Fort Vellore, a large 16th century fort built by the Vijayanagara kings. Discover a fort which served as the headquarters of the Vijayanagara Empire. Observe the architecture of the keep known for its grand ramparts, wide moat, and robust masonry. The fort hosts three religious temples, the Jalakanteswarar Hindu temple, the Christian St. John’s Church, and a muslim mosque. The first significant military rebellion against the British rule began at this fort in 1806. Enjoy the views from the walls, as the place was locally mentioned to be unlike any other fort on the face of earth. • A good place in Vellore for staying and moving around with history, for half an hour to an hour. The vast wall with the moat (shallow man-made canyon with water along the boundary wall) was for the security and now an attraction to visitors. Young people enjoy walking on the the boundary wall. The walls are made of rectangular and semicircular rocks.
  • This place is at heart of the city. Place is neat and clean. Inside there is a temple, open ground and old structures. This place is also very famous among evening/morning walkers.
  • It is too good in indian forts it build in only one night with the help of elephants. early ago stones are weightless so it is possible.first Indian mutiny is vellore mutiny in 1806 at fort, vellore.
  • The first independent movement started as Cippai Fight. Very nice and historical temple surrounded by Man made canal secured by Crocodiles. Great architecture and best stone carvings. Well maintained by govt with attached parks. Hot Weather is only bad part to note, so make it your visit in the morning or evening to make it pleasant.
  • Nice place to spend time and refresh with your patient at CMC. Nearest to cmc. No need to worry about pick pockets here . Food is ... I don't like.
