Varkala beach is also known as Papanasam beach, named after a stream of water that naturally springs from the cliff side, which is believed by the locals to have magical powers to cure a person of his sins(in Sanskrit, papa means sin and nasa means kill or destroy). The beach is beautiful, wide and, long. I would highly recommend watching sunset here. It is one of the most beautiful things I have experienced my life. The best time to visit the beach would be after the monsoon season. Late December to March offers sunny days with good views and clear weather, although it can get rather hot and humid. Temperatures will rise up to 35 or 36 degrees Celsius during the middle of the day, so avoid the beach during this time. After 5 P.M, the atmosphere will start to get comfortable with temperatures in the 20s.
