New Vishwanath Temple, Varanasi

4.6
The tallest temple tower in the world makes New Vishwanath Temple a popular visit for tourists, devotees, and students of architecture. Set within the spacious campus of the Benaras Hindu University, the 86.5 m (284 ft) high tower represents an iconic city landmark you won't easily miss. Built between 1931 and 1966, the modern shrine features many statues of Lord Shiva and interior walls inscribed with passages from the "Bhagavad-Gita." The vibrant campus teems with students, which means you'll find many inexpensive eating joints in the area. • Very serene, calm and soothing place. Lush green lawns, tall trees and fountains constitute amazing environment. The temple floor is made entirely of marbles. The walls are adorned with great sculptures, designs of religious significance. The roof is magnanimous and doors are gigantic. They give the temple a grand feel. The colors used are vibrant and please the eyes. It's a must watch place in Varanasi.
  • Clean and spacious premise. Not very crowded. Green surroundings. A person was singing a nice bhajan while playing harmonium when I visited.
  • This is a grand Temple. I have been visiting this temple for years with my best friends and then my wife. The environment of this place is unparalleled to any other temple in India. You'll see couples talking, students studying, art students rehearsing for a play, family unions, musical instruments being played and every aspect of life. The first floor of the Temple will give you a better view of the entire campus but not far. The Shivling is located on the ground floor and people are usually not allowed to take pics of the Linga. There are beautiful quotes from Gita mentioned on marble slates all through out the temple walls. I would like to thank that person who came up with the idea of constructing this temple. Note: There is a Nandi statue outside the temple, people usually whisper their wishes inside Nandi's ears to get them fulfilled.
  • It's very pleasent to be here one of the best temple of Varanasi. If you are visiting Varanasi then please visit here
  • "The most pious place amidst the pious heart of education " ........... A good place for meditation as well..........

Where to stay in Varanasi

The old city of Varanasi has a long history of pilgrimage and tourism, and its range of accommodations has developed to a high degree to meet the vast demand from across India and further afield. Perhaps the most interesting and atmospheric place to stay can be found in the area surrounding the ghats on the west bank of the river. You can find an eclectic mix of simple hotels and guesthouses all the way from this point up to the main train station. North of the station sit the most luxurious of the city's accommodations, with views of the tributary that runs through the north, and a range of additional facilities.
