Head down the steps at Assi Ghat to appreciate the ceremonial architecture and atmosphere of the city's southernmost ghat (a series of stairs leading to a body of water). Located at the confluence of two major rivers, the riverbank area is reputedly the place where the goddess Durga threw her sword into the water after killing a demon. See the large Shiva lingam (an abstract representation of the deity) under the shade of a peepal tree, a major site of Hindu pilgrimage and a focal point of ceremonies and celebrations at the ghat. • Assi Ghat is less crowded than other ghats and a good place to catch a boat and start your ride up the Ganges.

  • One of the most enaged ghats of Varanasi and even a place for multiple cultural, political, regional, eco-friendly, awareness events. Having a relatively clean and well build structure, it attracts the young crowd more and wth small shops around it makes it a visiting destination.
  • One of the best ghat very religious and spiritual. I'll recommend everyone to visit during aarti time. Clean and nice ghat and great view of ganges. Har har mahadev 🙏
  • Spacious. Relatively clean. Starting point for Ganga boat-excursions, which take you down the river till the historical Malviya (Dufferin) bridge and then back upstream. Features an Aarti in evenings as well, like the one at Dasaswamedh Ghat. The Vatika Café here is quite popular with its Italian food and Apple pie.
  • varanasi mere jaan......har har mahadev
  • A must place to visit.... very clean ghat.... loved the boat ride here.... cost me abt rs 300 for half hour ride along the ghat... though he could have accepted 250.. i was happy so i agreed for 300 when he insisted..
