Inspirock Rating:
4/5 based on 360+ reviews on the web
As part of a group of four islands of the same name, St. Mary's Island offers a great opportunity to enjoy islands untouched by the impact of civilization. You won't find any buildings or businesses on the island; the only structures allowed are a few covered pavilions and benches. Bring your own water and sunscreen, which you'll need in the heat and won't find on the island. Walk around the island to see the untouched nature and enjoy volcanic rocks in peculiar formations. Take a dip at one of the beaches, but watch out for jellyfish as you swim. Take a look at our Udupi travel itinerary planner to schedule your visit to St. Mary's Island and learn about what else to see and do during your holiday.

  • Beautiful place, good to spend a few hours walking around. Gets crowded during weekends. There are 2 ferries, one from Malpe beach and one from the Malpe harbor. Don't forget to carry a cap/umbrella a...  read more »
  • Nice boat ride to the island. Lot of scenery to take pictures. When the sun is out the photos are stunning. But avoid going in the afternoon. And listen to the people on the boat giving instructions f...  read more »
  • Open only during some part of the year. Post october after rainy season. Clean and beautiful place owing to less footfall of tourists. 30 mins boat journey from Malpe beach.
  • A great place to kill some tile and feel the wind in your hair. The scenery is great and a lot of ground to cover. It's been well maintained too. There's a lot of rocky hills to climb for all those adventurers out there. Overall, a great, peaceful tourist attraction!
  • “Paradise Beach Island” The island can be reached via a connecting ferry. The earlier one sets out in the morning the better. The booking happens in person at the booking office. Once at the island one has only one hour before the ferry departs so make the most of it. We found an isolated niche on the island at far east after getting of the ferry on the island and it was like finding a place in my dream. The sand soft and warm, the waters clean and calm. It was a one of a kind experience. The ferry ride lasts for approximately 20 minutes. We were lucky to spot dolphins diving above the water surface & then disappear. Carry sunblock, hats, glares, water and munchies if you'd like (don't litter). There is nothing available on the island. Must go place in Udupi Visited December 2015
  • This is a small beautiful island located in the Arabian sea, near Malpe beach in Udupi district of Karnataka State in India. Regular bus services are available between Udupi bus stand and Malpe beach at a ticket charge of Rs.10.00. Those who wish can arrange other vehicles as well. I alongwith the members of my family reached Malpe beach by bus on 04/04/2016 for visiting St.Mary's Island. The island can be reached through boat service at a cost of Rs.200/- per head. The boat takes around 10 minutes to reach the island through the sea. The island is small and beautiful. The rocks are extraordinary in shape. The boat service personals insisted to stay for one hour and return by the same boat. The island is an ideal location for photographers, tourists, geographers, lovers etc. Worth visiting. I will visit again this location once I reach Udupi
  • It seems like a good idea when you're on the boat(which only makes a couple of mandatory trips back and forth from the island to Malpe at 1:30 and 4:30 respectively) approaching the island, with the coconut trees beckoning and the clear blue waters lapping against the tiny shoreline. Upon reaching one immediately needs to get your pants rolled up as the only access to the island is to jump off the boat into the lukewarm water. A good tip would be to wear flipflops or sandals! This island boasts of pretty much nothing besides a toilet and some gazebos where one can get some shade under and maybe spread out your picnic meal. You can't really swim in the water as there are rocks protruding around most corners. It's best to take an early boat in the morning and come back to the mainland for lunch. Lookout for some interesting rock formations and the different hues of blue around you.
  • Awesome place to be! Been there with family, enjoyed the boat ride and then the island itself, it has those rocks made out of molten lava, they look amazing. Perfect place for a trio, a good photoshoot venue..
