St. Mary's Island, Udupi
(4/5 based on 380+ reviews on the web)
As part of a group of four islands of the same name, St. Mary's Island offers a great opportunity to enjoy islands untouched by the impact of civilization. You won't find any buildings or businesses on the island; the only structures allowed are a few covered pavilions and benches. Bring your own water and sunscreen, which you'll need in the heat and won't find on the island. Walk around the island to see the untouched nature and enjoy volcanic rocks in peculiar formations. Take a dip at one of the beaches, but watch out for jellyfish as you swim. Take a look at our Udupi travel itinerary planner to schedule your visit to St. Mary's Island and learn about what else to see and do during your holiday.

  • i went twice this place. worth spending here. its clean well maintained by government. 30 mins travel in boat.
  • Very nice island. It could do with a little more upkeep though. Absolutely nothing to do once you get there. You can spend time in the water or admiring the basalt rocks formations. Gets really hot in...  more »
  • This little island is visible and accessible from the Malpe beach and is an absolute gem of a place. Malpe itself is quite clean and the ferry ride to the island is a lot of fun (though i do think the...  more »

  • We waited in a long queue to board the ferry, well visitors did break the queue as soon as the ferry came close by. Ferry ride was nice till we reached close to the island. To our shock, we were asked to move to another smaller boat in the sea!! When asked the boat men said that the ferry boat will hit the bottom of the reef so they had shift to a smaller boat to reach the island. There was no notice or information at the ferry point in the mainland regarding this change over of boats. The small boat then dropped us in the island and picked people ready to return. There was absolute chaos there among people returning. You have to walk 10-20 steps into water to board the small boat, no queue, the boat men couldn't manage the people. Then again you have to shift to the bigger ferry to return to mainland. If you are with kids and elderly people, better avoid this place. You can spend quality time in malpe beach instead.
  • Amazingly formed rocks. Crystal clear waters. Enjoy the boat ride. Would love to see them stop the sale of snacks and drinks in plastic wrappers and bottles. Waste management on the island is poor, garbage is burnt instead of following a proper disposal. Such a beautiful place could be maintained much more cleaner.
  • Beautiful tiny island. Awesome place for day out. I enjoyed this place like anything. I covered almost all the corners of this island. In each corner you can spend more than an hour.
  • The Hexagonal shaped rocks are unique to this island. Also in some parts of the island you have clear water where you can get immersed and play. The ferry ride to the island is also a great experience.
  • A great place to kill some time and feel the wind in your hair. The scenery is great and a lot of ground to cover. It's been well maintained too. There's a lot of rocky hills to climb for all those hikers out there. Overall, a great, peaceful tourist attraction!
