#8 of 145 in Things to do in Udaipur
A majestic palace made in yellow sandstone and marble, Jagmandir Isla captivates visitors with its architecture and location in the middle of an island in the Lake Pichola. Built in the 17th century, the palace represents classic Islamic style of architecture, with vast halls and elaborately adorned pavilions. Take a stroll through the courtyard, which looks like a huge chessboard, and drop by the onsite restaurant to try out all sorts of local dishes. You can access this place from the Palace by boat. 400/- each. Apart from the Gardens & a restuarant nothing much. However it is a treat to be in the middle of the lake & enjoy nature.  more »

From my point of view, the island itself does not have much interest. A square closed to which surround a few cafés and outdoor pretty gardens. What more has given me this visit is the opportunity to see his palace and Udaipur from another point of view and appreciate the grandeur of the building. In addition the boat that takes you to the island gives a small detour to see the Palace well. I recommend that you place on the right if you want to take better pictures;-).

No doubt Udaipur is pretty and is the city of lakes and you want to do a small trip. But going to Jagmandir for Rs 700 is like asking for a daylight robbery. The boat ride is small... and no views on ...  more »

Amazingly beautiful place but for this you need to Burn a hole in your pocket. In order to reach this place you need to buy tickets from the ticket counter just at the entry of city palace. One can reach this place only by boat. They have a private boat which charges Rs. 400 per person and take you on a ride by which you can look around the entire lake. Jag mandir is basically a hotel which when booked for private parties do not bother to take care of people coming to visit this place and shedding money. Though the food is quite costly but its great too. The management will not let you know if it is booked for private party or not, one gets to know only when you reach there. They also don't have their fine dine space open for public even when you are ready to pay. Better carry something if you have babies along or it can really get you in trouble. They really need to improve on being courteous to the visitors.

I do not understand what "amazing" and "beautiful" is there. I would describe it as terrible. Empty, dirty, run down place that nobody takes care of. Nobody cleans anything there for months or forever. Birds poop is on outside tables and stools of the cafe, nobody cleans eat. Price of food is outrageously high. Who wants to seat and eat in this empty dirty place? The garden is a joke. No place to seat, no flowers. Old architecture is beautiful but everything is done to slowly destroy it. Clean it up, lower prices and people will come and spend their money there. I cannot even imagine staying in that hotel. Absolutely nothing to do, nothing to enjoy. Spa massages are priced such that people look at prices and leave. Not good! Whoever owns it should be shameful. On top of that 400 and 730 rupees for a boat ride is not worth it. I paid for the ride thinking it will bring me to incredibly beautiful place. Not worth it.

Jag Mandir is a palace built on an island on the Lake Pichola. Also called the ‘Lake Garden Palace’, the construction for this began in 1551 and was completed around 1652. The royal family used the palace as its summer resort and for hosting parties.
