#1 of 13 in Historic Sites in Thrissur
Surrounded by a massive stone wall enclosing an area of 3.6 hectares (9 acres), Vadakkunnathan Temple features classic Kerala architecture with monumental towers on all four sides. Set in the heart of Thrissur, this represents one of the largest and oldest Hindu temples in the region, with its koothambalam, or temple theater, dating from the 7th century. Pay special attention to the murals, which depict episodes from the Mahabharata, and enjoy the temple's lively colors, elaborate wooden carvings, and expansive surrounding greenery. Every year, millions of devotees flock to see a line of decorated elephants during the temple's famous pooram festival (mid-April to mid-May), culminating in firecrackers. • All the gods blessings you here. Beautiful Temple. Serene and Peaceful Backdrop. No time limit here one can spend quality time immersed in devotion as long as they want.
  • One of those places where you feel like you actually connect with your spiritual side. The temple is quite large so plan to spend at least an hour inside. As with most temples, there's a sequence you need to follow inside while offering prayers. Don't worry too much about it. Just enjoy the feeling you get like you're entirely in another universe. Hats off for maintaining this in the middle of the city even after all these years.
  • One of the best temples that i have ever visited!!
