The sanctuary consists of the watershed areas of Kurumali River and Mupliam rivers. Nestled in the sanctuary is Chimmony Dam which is built across the Chimmony river.FaunaThe sanctuary is an important bird area with 192 recorded avian species. Five Western Ghats endemic bird species occur here, including the grey-headed bulbul (Pycnonotus priocephalus), Indian rufous babbler (Turdoides subrufus) and white-bellied blue-flycatcher (Cyornis pallipes). Other interesting species found here include-Ceylon frogmouth (Batrachostomus moniliger), Indian edible-nest swiftlet (Collocalia unicolor), Malabar trogon (Harpactes fasciatus), Malabar whistling-thrush (Myiophonus horsfieldii) and Loten's sunbird (Nectarinia lotenia) (Islam and Rahmani 2004). • Forest department organises camps for students and they have reasonably good facilities for the same. A conference hall and dormitory is available for the purpose, which can accommodate around 50 students. A guest house is also attached to the facility. Trekking through the buffer zone will give you a glimpse of the flora in evergreen forests. Animal sightings are very few. The dam site and waterfall are other attractions of the sanctuary
  • Its one of the best wild life sanctuary. Its 22kms away from pudukkad. As you go to the sanctuary, you can see rubber estates which spreads over a large area. These rubber plantations will give you a different feeling. You have to take pass to get onto the sanctuary. This place is so calm and peaceful. Its good for a picnic with your family, bamboo rafting, butterfly safari, forest safari. The river bank will make you feel great.
  • Very calm place to visit, loves the ride on the way to chimmniy dam.its a big dam construction work for tourism aminities are in progress, entry fee for Indians ₹10 per head and for foreigners ₹150 per head. Now the small shutter is opened for 15 days. It's a wildlife sanctuary but you never get a view of any wild animals.
  • Well, this isn't a commercialized tourist attraction. It's only getting popular. For example, I couldn't find the only tea shop open even on a Saturday. It's of course, a great destination if you're in search of a place to escape from the hectic life.
  • It is one of those places where you find the dam, the reservoir and the forest around it. This sanctuary has none of the fame of the Thekkaddy or Parambikulam or even the nearby Peechi. All you will find is a medium sized dam with a shutter half open and a reservoir that offers a good view of the hills around it. There is no garden suitable for a picnic or much by way of amenities. I found the place secluded and rather unimpressive. After the rains I think it would be much better.
