Take a trip through Indian and Asian history through paintings at Shri Chitra Art Gallery, a diverse collection of visual arts set in two pavilions inside a zoo. Established in 1935, by the then Maharaja of Travancore, the gallery boasts over 1,000 paintings including works of important artists such as Raja Ravi Varma and his brother C. Raja Raja Varma, Nicholas Roerich and his son Svetoslav, Rabindranath Tagore and his pupil Jamini Roy. Painted or embroidered Tibetan thanga, Mughal and tanjore painting as well as Bali art make a diverse oriental collection. Another highlight is Indian murals from prehistory down to 18th century.   • Located near Napier Museum. Must visit place to see Raja Ravi Verma Original Paintings. Has collection of few other painters as well. 
  • Whole permisses of Art Gallery is very clean & maintaining old beauty of place . collectection of Travancore family is excellent with simplicity they provied guide facility with group of visiters. 
  • the paintings were breath taking to watch, but not properly organised, several other wannabe painters works were mixed up in between, it became such a drag to watch 
  • Beautiful. If you ever need to know for yourself the talent of the great artist Raja Ravi Varma, don't go anywhere else. This is the right place.
